Teachings for Our Time Lesson Recap

Teachings of Jesus    by Elder Dallin H. Oaks
The sisters in class offered many insightful answers regarding Who the Savior is and what He has done for us.  Thank you so much!  This is not a review of the lesson but a follow-up to share the comments made and other information given only in class plus addition resources.
Jesus testified that it is only through His teachings, His example, and His atonement we can return to live with our Heavenly Father.  His actions were always in line with His Father’s will and He explained that only those who do His Father’s will enter His kingdom.   We can find out our Heavenly Father’s will for us  in earnest prayer and guidance by the Holy Ghost; our prayers can be applied to what we learn in church meetings, conferences, Sunday school, and, as our stake RS president Deon Tait pointed out,  Relief Society J! Relief Society also offers service and the love and support we have for each other to help us learn His will.   We can also learn who we are to Him by prayerfully pondering our patriarchal blessings and the scriptures.
We are blessed through priesthood power because it is the sealing power to bind in heaven what is bound on earth.  Priesthood is necessary for temple ordinances, all other ordinances, the privilege to access divine help through priesthood blessings , and the weekly gift of taking the sacrament.  Jesus continues to teach us today through our living prophet.  Does what we know of Jesus Christ enable us to follow his counsels and “seek first the kingdom of God” as Jesus taught, or do we find those counsels to be “hard sayings” we won’t follow?  Only through the indescribable atonement Jesus made for us (because we can’t do it ourselves) and through the covenants we make with Heavenly Father (because they commit us to specific commandments Jesus taught and enlist His help) can we be saved.
Elder Oaks challenges us with Jesus’ own question, “What think ye of Christ?” and asks us to ponder our lives, to see if our lives reflect what we say we believe.  Each of us can attain and deepen our testimony of Jesus Christ, and all He has done for us, through the Holy Ghost.  Elder Oaks explains how.

“Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten and Beloved Son of God. . .He is our Savior from sin and death.  This is the most important knowledge on earth.”
